Man eats foods from his own garden, avoids chemotherapy to cure himself of lung cancer

When Stamatis Moraitis, a native of Greece, was diagnosed with severe lung cancer in just his mid-60s, he was told he had just 9 months to live. In an amazing turn of events, however, Stamatis has managed to survive for over three decades – cancer-free.

Mr. Moraitis has credited his incredible health, even at the ripe old age of 98, to his diet. He keeps a garden, grows his own fresh, organic produce, and tends to his very own olive grove on a daily basis. You see, rather than undergoing toxic chemotherapy treatments for the 9 months of life his doctors estimated he’d have left, he chose to return to Greece and lead a simple, natural life that he could enjoy. By following a diet that primarily consisted of fresh, natural foods, leading an active lifestyle and filling his life with loved ones, Stamatis was able to heal his cancer.

Dr. Lissa Rankin, mind-body medicine physician and founder of the Whole Health Medicine Institute training program, says she believes that people could learn a thing or two from Mr. Moraitis. Living a long, healthy life – especially after being diagnosed with a deadly disease – is no small feat these days. We can appreciate and learn from people who take the time and effort to invest in their health. Dr. Rankin suggests that eating more plants, healthy fats like olive oil, and fewer animal products and processed foods are some simple ways to promote wellness.

Eating more fruits and vegetables is a great start. Most fruits and vegetables contain lots of valuable micronutrients and phytonutrients that can help support your health, but some are more potent than others. There are many foods that are renowned for their cancer-fighting capacity. Green tea is known for its catechins – the compounds in green tea that give it amazing health properties. Catechins are thought to be even more powerful than vitamin C!

Some other great foods that can help fight cancer include tomatoes, carrots, spinach, broccoli and berries. These brightly-hued fruits and veggies contain a wide array of phytonutrients, each with its own set of benefits. Tomatoes are rich in lycopene, for instance, which is an extremely powerful antioxidant. Lycopene is said to reduce the risk of several types of cancer, and also lowers your risk of heart disease. Densely-pigmented berries such as strawberries, blueberries, black raspberries and goji berries are loaded with a myriad of cancer-fighting nutrients and delicious flavor.

Eating more fresh fruits and vegetables is one of the easiest ways to boost your health.
